Sophia's Underground Carnival

“Replicating nature, robots have evolved from simple constructions such as the mechanical singing bird made by Hero of Alexandria 2000 years ago, to the more sophisticated programmed devices made today. …Although the sculptural robots radiate a gentle playfulness, I am aware that much technology is very serious — which fills me with apprehension. I remember the Russian Robot (Satellite) that went around the dark side of the Moon in 1961 and the American spaceship that landed eight years later. …The wooden Playful Robots — perhaps with the spirit of Krishna romping with the eight milk-maids — also have no distinct sounds or words, only a gentle noise of the breeze as the heads of the two larger sculptures rotate and wobble on their springs”.
